The shipper tells me it's not usually a major carrier anyways. The shipper works with a broker, and I have to give them the destination address well before a carrier is chosen, so I can't count on using that carrier's terminal for dropoff. So I need a commercial address with fork-lift, etc. My residence is in the mountains and can't be accessed by anything larger than uHaul. I purchased a shed-in-a-box kit that will ship LTL on a 10' long pallet in a normal enclosed semi. Tired of spending time on emails that get ignored. Now I've automated a monthly email that plainly asks for an update. Until this point my emails have been friendly, infrequent, never pushy. We're coming up on 6 months past "final testing" and I can't get in contact with him. Wait a month and try again, and that's where we're at today. I give him 3 months before emailing him again. I assume within a month I'll have the watch. He ignores half of them.Īt 1 year, 6 months the movement service is done, and the following week he plans to do final testing. We're at 1 year, 3 months.Īt that point I figure I need to project manage this, and start sending emails every few weeks asking for an update. I paid half and gave him carte blanche to do whatever the watch needed without approval.Ħ months later, he lets me know the case is replated, and things would move quickly from there.ĩ months after the replated parts are back, he hasn't contacted me. Timeline: once he received the watch, it took two months to get a quote for the work. Replating is subcontracted, so I expected extra time there, especially with covid. The watchmaker is "the guy" for this brand and vintage, so no parts shortage or learning curve. I wanted the case, pushers, crown, and hands replated, in addition to the general service.

The project is a manual Valjoux chrono- marginally slow over a day, sub-registers worked and reset. It's part of the game, and I heard the same story from watch collectors. The in-demand specialists are usually a pain to deal with. I went into my first watch project with realistic expectations, figuring it couldn't be worse than classic cars. Is this what I should expect in the watch world? Is it my fault for buying a vintage chrono? ?

I'm curious about a pro watchmaker's perspective on my experience. Tldr I'm nearly 2 years into a watch service and case replate. A new callous, cut, splinter, even grime changes your thumbprint more than iOS likes. Ironically I've been really happy with face ID, since touch ID rarely recognized my thumbprint after a day of work. Is this just something that happens with this hardware? IIRC, the touch ID phones I've had required a physical home button press to initiate an unlock, whether or not you used touch ID or passcode afterwards. This is my first face ID phone, and my first month on-site with a face ID phone. Being able to keep the phone in my pocket without bricking is basic stuff.

my use case has always been consistent (minus the airpods). I've been using iPhones since the 3, never had this issue. Most obvious answer is that the phone is registering a passcode input from my leg, but how? There's no way the phone is moving enough vertically to swipe from bottom to top. That could get bad real fast if other lockout posts are any indication. By the time I pulled the phone out the lockout was up to 30mins or so. The first time it happened, I figured it was a cell service issue and continued working.

I can flip the screen outwards in my pocket, but as a continuous habit, that's asking for a cracked screen. The only solution I've found is to leave my phone sitting somewhere while I work, not the safest move on-site.

I wait a minute, enter my passcode (face ID is disabled after this message), and repeat. After 10 minutes or so, the audio in my airpods will cut out, I'll pull my phone out and see this message. I'll put my phone in my pocket and listen to podcasts while I work (manual labor). No reference of this happening in a user's pocket.

The current video was composited not so long ago.I've found posts here (and elsewhere) that describe this lock screen message, always a result of failed password attempts.
